Club/Organization Membership

Through their membership, NYSOA member clubs/organizations visibly demonstrate their commitment to conserving the birds and birding habitats of New York State. At the same time, these organizations gain visibility and credibility in the birding and ornithological communities. Quarterly bird sighting summaries published in NYSOA's journal, The Kingbird, are built from data submitted by member clubs/organizations. In addition, our member clubs/organizations are part of the large birding & ornithology network listed on the Clubs/Organizations page of this website, with contact information and links to their websites.

Member clubs/organizations receive a copy of the same quarterly publications as individual members do. NYSOA's Annual Meeting is hosted each autumn by a member club/organization that chooses to do so (with assistance from NYSOA). This arrangement provides local groups that wish to do so with an opportunity to deliver their message to, and establish contact with, birders and ornithologists from all over New York State. By volunteering to host and publicize one of the largest birding and ornithology oriented conferences in the state, these organizations achieve broad visibility statewide as well as in their local community. It is well understood and accepted, however, that some member clubs/organizations are simply not in a position to host the Annual Meeting. Read the NYSOA Annual Meeting Overview for Host Clubs.

Bird, conservation, and other nature-oriented organizations based in New York State that are interested in NYSOA membership are asked to . Depending on their size, member clubs/organizations are entitled to send 1 to 5 voting delegates to the annual Council of Delegates meeting.  Annual club/organization dues are based on club/organization membership as follows:

10 to 100 members: $25
101 to 350 members: $35
More than 350 members: $60
