Discovered by Ken Rosenberg on 8 April 2000, this male Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) maintained a territory for most of April (at least) in farmland near Dryden Lake in Tompkins County.

View of West Lake Road, South of Dryden New York. The Western Meadowlark was often seen singing from the telephone line (on left) at several points along this road. Video-still copyright of Angus Wilson © 2000

A superb series of digital camera images of this bird, together with some very useful discussion of separation from Eastern Meadowlark, can be found on NYSARC member Kevin McGowan's homepage.
