GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Participants must be either individual/family members of NYSOA or members of NYSOA member clubs/organizations.

Only one report per form submission. Additional reporters must complete and submit their own forms, either online or via paper & USPS. Beyond the membership requirement, no attempt is made to verify, screen or otherwise edit any reports.

All reports are for individual Life Lists with the one exception of an individual New York State 2010 Annual List.  (No club lists or other joint or communal reports, please.)

No reports submitted in previous years are carried into the next published list - the slate is wiped clean each year.  If you want your lists published this year, submit them on this form, even if the numbers haven’t changed.

Pelagic Boundaries: See discussion in the 1999 County List report published in the October 2000 issue of New York Birders. As it stands, the official NYSARC pelagic boundary between New York and New Jersey follows a straight line from an inshore point at 40° 30' 36", 73° 58' 12" to a far offshore point at 37° 50' 24", 70° 35' 00".

Acceptable Species
DO NOT INCLUDE in your numbers any hybrids, subspecies, forms, released or escaped birds or any species not yet on the official Checklist of the Birds of New York State.  Just a few examples of birds not to be included in your reports are: Trumpeter Swan, Chukar, “Great White Heron,” “Brewster’s Warbler,” “Oregon Junco.”  In some cases, the bird may eventually be included in the Checklist; have patience.  You may, of course, keep anything you want on your personal lists, but for reporting here, please conform to the rules we ask everyone to follow.

Thresholds
For the State and Regional categories, there are reporting thresholds, as indicated.  Reports below the thresholds will not be published.  There are no thresholds for County Lists.
